Highest Point in Alabama
Nestled in the Talladega National Forest in northern Alabama stands Cheaha Mountain rising 2,407 feet above sea level. This spot is known for having the highest elevation in the entire state. This region is a part of the Appalachian Mountain chain which extends from Maine to Alabama.
The Civilian Conservation Corps constructed the bunker tower as a lookout point for visitors to take in the miles of scenery from this magnificent location.
This mountaintop has been open for spectators since 1939, and since then every year thousands of tourists make their way to explore the natural beauty of Cheaha Mountain.
Violet Sky’s Visit
Having explored the area of Cheaha State Park several times, I always enjoy coming here. The views from this mountaintop are just stunning. From this point visitors can see for miles. I also thought the history behind this site was interesting.
